Sigh. We were offered tickets under the "new rules" that distributed the remaining tickets to repeat volunteers, and for a cheaper price too. I didn't take them, because I was already of the mind that I'd put my effort into attending regionals this year. So instead of being a part of the whole nasty lottery business, which BMORG was repeatedly warned against by many different intelligent people that DO THIS KIND OF THING FOR A LIVING, I have actually made my first art piece, traveled with it to a cool regional in the high desert, AND I am going to another one in June.

The playa is magical. The system has failed, and it will take some serious rethinking and restructuring to return to our stated principles. I don't mind missing this year, if only to say "come on guys, get your shit together."

I think in the end, whomever wants will get. Hopefully enough people will get involved and come up with a workable solution. No need to feel the guilt. Although, you're not the only one I know who feels that way.

I'm not even sure yet if we're going. It's too far away to say. I usually get tickets and then if I can't go, they go to someone else.

Yes... I agree. At least we're not being stoned to death when we get our tickets. Or... are we?

I saw that petition. The only thing is, if I have an extra ticket, I want to give it to a friend. It would sort of suck to have to police everyone because of scalpers.

We shall see what happens.

Lots of people I know didn't get one either...
I got one ticket at the lowest tier (and I only entered one entry to the lottery) but I definitely feel survivor's guilt.

Thanks, Conner. I felt similarly about your TBEX keynote. You absolutely capture a moment and experience.
Yes, La Loma is quite amazing. We were there right before they had their baby, so we only met Henry.
Beautiful place.

Thanks, Meisha. I'm so glad you liked it. no better way to compliment a writer, and I look forward to see you back here too. I wish I could have been there for TBEX, but being part of the keynote has made me feel at least a bit that I was there. Esp when I have the chance to meet new people like you.
Sounds like we may have been in Bocas around the same time. We left May 2008. What about you?

Leigh, I heard your story read aloud at TBEX last weekend. Your story of Bocas is amazing! I visited the area two years ago and was so enthralled that I stayed there for my entire Panama trip with the exception of a shot trip to Boquette, which was quickly diverted back to Bocas. Your description of arriving in ATL is exactly how I felt and continue to feel after each trip abroad. I love the way your writing brings the reader into your emotion and experiences. Beautiful story. I can't wait to read more of your work.
